Uncertain Future for Navy Training Center

The future of the Navy Training Center, or KE Poros, remains uncertain after the last class of new Coast Guard officers were sworn in on September 7.
The base, which had previously been used for training Navy conscripts, has been used by the Coast Guard as a training facility for new recruits. Although there has been no official announcement, there have been informal reports that this was the last class of new officers to be taken in by the center.
No alternate plans for the facility have been announced.
KE Poros was founded in 1827 as the first base of the modern Greek Navy and later served as the summer palace of King Othon.
