Dias To Dismantle Poros Fish Farms by 2015

panor-porosaDias Aquaculture SA has announced the closure of its fish farms on Poros by 2015, noting that no jobs will be lost as employees’ positions will be transferred to other areas of activity and operation.
The announcement came just weeks after a court rejected an appeal by Dias against an earlier conviction for damaging the environment.
In a separate corporate announcement, the company said it had begun merger talks with Selonda Aquaculture SA, which would absorb Dias to become one of the world’s largest producers of sea bass and sea bream.
Meantime, the Council of State, Greece’s highest administrative court, postponed discussion of petitions seeking the overturn of the Aquaculture Planning Framework under which Poros is zoned as an aquaindustrial area.
